Liège. This city is approximately 100 km from Brussels. The heart of the city is dominated by the Palace of the Prince-Bishops. Under the main square (Place St Lambert) one can visit an archeological site which relates the city’s history. Close by are the symbol of freedom (the “Perron”), the majestic Meuse River and the Curtius museum complex which is a beautiful example of mosan architecture. Saint Barthélemy church is where you will admire the famous baptismal fonts by Renier of Huy. Close by are the impressive steps (Buren) which link the top and bottom parts of the city and quaint little alleys.
The most famous writer of the city is Georges Simenon who would not recognize the extraordinary railway station, a masterpiece of Spanish architect Calatrava.
On the way back to Brussels, we will follow the valley of the Meuse to discover the industrial past (and present) of the area. On the way we can admire the little city of Amay, the pearl of this valley and the city of Huy.
This tour doesn't provide visits inside the buildings.
